Celebrate the Fourth of July at the Freedom Tower. MDC will feature a light and animation show projected onto the exterior of the Freedom Tower, bringing 250 years of American history to life through projection mapping. Created by Miami Dade College gaming and animation students from MAGIC MDC, the show uses one of Miami’s most recognizable landmarks as a canvas to help tell the American story.
Students at the Miami Animation & Gaming International Complex (MAGIC) at Miami Dade College created the artwork and for a projection mapping project to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the United States. Created entirely by MAGIC students under the guidance of the department Chairperson, Mauricio Ferrazza, the production will transform Miami’s iconic Freedom Tower into a living canvas that celebrates America’s history, ideals, innovation, and future through animation and visual storytelling.

Rather than presenting history as a series of static images, the projection mapping experience will tell highlights of 250 years of American history. The show will explore themes of freedom, opportunity, artistic expression, while highlighting the Freedom Tower’s unique role as a symbol of hope and new beginnings for generations of immigrants and refugees in our community.
Beyond celebrating America’s semi quincentennial, the project serves as a real-world educational experience that mirrors the collaborative environment of professional studios. Students will build portfolios, strengthen technical and creative skills, and experience stages of this production—from concept development and historical research to final installation and live presentation. The completed projection mapping show will stand as both a celebration of America’s 250th anniversary and a showcase of the extraordinary creativity, talent, and innovation of Miami Dade College’s MAGIC students.
