Celebrating Laura Triana Hernandez and the next generation of creative storytellers
The MAGIC Student Scholarship Fund was created in 2025 by students, for students, as part of the 10-year anniversary of the Miami Animation & Gaming International Complex at Miami Dade College.
Throughout the anniversary year, the MAGIC community came together through special events celebrating a decade of innovation, storytelling, collaboration, and student success. Proceeds from these events established a scholarship fund dedicated to helping future creators pursue their education in animation, gaming, and immersive technologies.
Today, we are proud to announce the fund’s first scholarship recipient: Laura Triana Hernandez, an aspiring animator whose journey reflects the determination, creativity, and ambition at the heart of MAGIC.
Laura is a Cuban immigrant who came to the United States in pursuit of an education and a future in the creative industries. Her lifelong love of art, animation, and video games inspired her to choose MDC’s MAGIC program, where she is building the artistic, technical, and storytelling skills needed to begin her professional career.
For as long as I can remember, I’ve wanted to be part of the creative industries that brought me so much joy. Pursuing this passion was one of the reasons I decided to move to the United States and pursue an education in animation.
Laura aspires to become a professional 2D animator or storyboard artist. She is also interested in visual development, character design, and storytelling for video games. After graduating from MDC, she plans to continue developing her portfolio, seek internships and professional opportunities, and pursue further education when possible.
Her ultimate goal is to contribute to animated shows, films, and video games—and to create stories and characters with which audiences can genuinely connect.
Laura’s selection represents more than the presentation of a scholarship. It marks the beginning of a new MAGIC tradition: students and supporters coming together to create opportunities for the artists, animators, game developers, and immersive-media creators who will follow them.Help the Next MAGIC Student Succeed
