Did you know that the first Superman movies were made in Miami? Before Man of Steel and Justice League, before the 1980s films starring Christopher Reeve, even before the 1950s TV series Adventures of Superman, the Man of Steel appeared on the big screen in a series of animated cartoons produced in Miami by the Fleischer Brothers animation studio.
The Fleischers were already famous for their Popeye and Betty Boop cartoons when they started animating Superman in 1941. Their Superman cartoons, shot in Technicolor, had an Art Deco look rendered mainly in primary colors.
Kevin Wynn of the Wolfson Archives will trace the history of the Fleischer Brothers animation studio using photographs, home movies and Fleischer Brothers cartoons.
