SUMMARY:Changemaker Week at MAGIC - Virtual Visions: Stories that Spark Change
DESCRIPTION:The MAGIC Department is excited to be part of this year’s Changemaker Week (September 15–21). Our featured event\, Virtual Visions: Stories that Spark Change\, will showcase the immersive VR simulations developed by MAGIC students in collaboration with faculty across disciplines over the past two years. \n \nJoin us on September 18th\, from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m.\, and step into interactive experiences that merge storytelling\, science\, and technology. The projects include: \nLab Lockdown (Chemistry) – with Professor Davia Holness\nCreated by students at MAGIC and Dr. Davia Holness\, this chemistry focused escape room game challenges players to solve content driven puzzles to escape a locked laboratory. Tasks include using property-based clues to identify and correctly place missing elements on the periodic table. \nDigestion ED (Nutrition) – with Professor Olubisi Faoye\nDeveloped by students at MAGIC\, this immersive biology module lets learners explore the human digestive system in VR. Embedded quizzes reinforce learning throughout the experience\, making it a powerful tool for self-guided study. The simulation was developed under the guidance of Professor Olubisi Faoye. \nStellar Factor (Math Factors) – with Professor Manini Nguyen\nCreated by students at MAGIC and Professor Manini Nguyen\, the game trasnports you to alien worlds where by finding a series of objects and solving a series of Math Factors\, it will get you back home. \n\nMAGIC Lead Faculty: Prof. Silvia Sayas and Prof. Mel Tomeo \nMusic Supervisor: Dr. Susan Epstein – Garcia\, NWSA \nDepartment Chairperson: Mauricio Ferrazza \n\nThe event is posted on the Changemaker Hub and will also appear on the MDC Wolfson Calendar. SUMMARY:The 19th Annual "Animation Show of Shows"
DESCRIPTION:THE 19TH ANNUAL ANIMATION SHOW OF SHOWS OFFERS A WEALTH OFHUMOR\, INSIGHT\, AND PROFUNDITY \n\nThe ANIMATION SHOW OF SHOWS returns MDC MAGIC this Spring\, presenting 16 exceptional and inspiring animated shorts from around the world. At a time of increasing social instability and global anxiety about a range of issues\, the works in this year’s show have a special resonance\, presenting compelling ideas about our place in society and how we fit into the world. \n\n\n“Because animation is such a natural medium for dealing with abstract ideas and existential concerns\, the ANIMATION SHOW OF SHOWS has always included a number of thoughtful and engaging films\,” says founder and curator Ron Diamond. “However\, more than in previous years\, I believe that this year’s program really offers contemporary animation that expresses deeply felt issues in our own country and around the world.” \nThese films include Niki Lindroth von Bahr’s Annecy Grand Prix-winning “The Burden\,” a melancholy\, funny and moving film that explores the tribulations\, hopes and dreams of a group of night-shift employees\, uniquely capturing the zeitgeist of our time. At the other end of the spectrum\, David OReilly’s playful and profound “Everything\,” based on the work of the late philosopher Alan Watts\, explores the interconnectedness of the universe and the multiplicity of perspectives that underlie reality. \n\n\n\n\n \n16 animated short films presented in order of appearance:\n\nCan You Do It – Quentin Baillieux\, France\nTiny Big – Lia Bertels\, Belgium\nNext Door – Pete Docter\, U.S.\nThe Alan Dimension – Jac Clinch\, UK\nBeautiful Like Elsewhere – Elise Simard\, Canada\nHangman – Paul Julian and Les Goldman\, U.S.\nThe Battle of San Romano – Georges Schwizgebel\, Switzerland\nGokurosama – Clémentine Frère\, Aurore Gal\, Yukiko Meignien\, Anna Mertz\, Robin Migliorelli\, Romain Salvini\, France\nDear Basketball – Glen Keane\, U.S.\nIsland – Max Mörtl and Robert Löbel\, Germany\nUnsatisfying – Parallel Studio\, France\nMy Burden – Niki Lindroth von Bahr\, Sweden\nLes Abeilles Domestiques (Domestic Bees) Alexanne Desrosiers\, Canada\nOur Wonderful Nature: The Common Chameleon – Tomer Eshed\, Germany\nCasino – Steven Woloshen\, Canada\nEverything – David OReilly\, U.S\n\n\nThe 19th ANIMATION SHOW OF SHOWS represents the work of artists from eight countries\, including nine women. SUMMARY:MDC MAGIC + FIU Articulation Agreement Information Session
DESCRIPTION:MDC MAGIC + FIU Articulation Agreement Information Session\nFlorida International University’s Lee Caplin School of Journalism & Media will host an information session fto provide information about the  transfer pathway for MDC graduates of the Associate in Science (AS) in Animation and Game Art or the AS in Game Development and Design to pursue a Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Digital Communication and Media at FIU. Please make sure to attend this event if you’re interested in transferring to FIU to continue your studies. \n\nThe Agreement\nMiami Dade College (MDC) and Florida International University (FIU) signed an articulation agreement that creates a seamless transfer pathway for MDC graduates of the Associate in Science (AS) in Animation and Game Art or the AS in Game Development and Design to pursue a Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Digital Communication and Media at FIU. Both MDC and FIU recognize the significant roles they each play as exemplars evolving successful transfer pathways\, which have positively impacted student outcomes. \nStudents pursuing the AS degree at the Miami Animation & Gaming International Complex would matriculate at MDC for 4 semesters. Upon successful completion of the AS degree at MDC\, MDC graduates would seamlessly enroll at FIU to complete the remaining 4 semesters of the BS in Digital Communication and Media. MDC students who transition to FIU under the terms of the Agreement will be required to complete any remaining General Education requirements at FIU or through approved accelerated credit mechanisms. MDC students must meet FIU’s transfer admission criteria for the catalog year when they first enrolled at MDC. MDC students must successfully complete the Foreign Language Graduation Requirement prior to enrolling at FIU. In addition to meeting FIU’s transfer admission criteria\, students seeking admission to the Lee Caplin School of Journalism & Media\, must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.85. \nFIU will accept major-specific courses completed at MDC to count toward the BS in Digital Communication and Media. Students are allowed no more than 12 credits of lower-division courses to count toward upper-division requirements\, as stipulated by the Accrediting Council in Education in Journalism and Mass Communication\, the Lee Caplin School of Journalism & Media’s accrediting agency. \n\nBoth Animation & Game Art and Game Development & Design transfer maps to FIU are available for review by clicking here: MAGIC + FIU TRANSFER MAPS.
