SUMMARY:Workshop - Coding Fundamentals with Unity
DESCRIPTION:  \nThis workshop is for those who seek to understand programming or reinforce their knowledge of the fundamentals. The workshop will cover variables\, data types\, functions\, and architecture using the Unity Engine. \n  \n\nUnderstanding Variables and Data Types\nBreak down of individual components that make up a variable. Giving the students a basic understanding of not only what they are doing\, but why. \nBreaking down the different operands in coding\nArithmetic operands are mostly understood by the students\, but I feel that is the only operand they understand. I would help them break down the different operands such as logical\, assignment\, and equality operands. Additionally\, teaching small shortcuts with arithmetic operands. \nDeconstruct the mystery of functions/methods and logic gates\nFunctions by many of the students are mostly treated as a black box. Never questioning if they work\, but just that they do. They never ask why\, or how\, but I feel if I can break down the different components of a function and logic gate. This will help them understand things like logic gates\, loops\, and even scope and reference. \nApplying this knowledge into Unity\nFinally\, once we have built this foundation we will piece together with a small project we will build together. I don’t expect to finish or complete the project as this isn’t the goal of the workshop\, but mainly to gauge them to have them see what they understand and misunderstood. Eventually\, opening to discussion and questions. \n\nThis workshop will be facilitated by Alexander Cartaya – MAGIC Academic Tutor

SUMMARY:Workshop - Intro to Unreal Engine
DESCRIPTION:  \nThis workshop isan introduction to the Unreal Engine. We are unshrouding the mystery behind blueprints nodes by basically breaking down how they work\, so that you can explore this system a little easier on their own. \n  \n  \n\nGet Familiar Navigating the Engine\nBreakdown of the most common components of the engine\, and inject certain terminology into the student’s vocabulary so they are aware and can move through the workshop\, for example: Defining the purpose of viewport\, Explaining the importance of the parent/child relationship of Actors (Game Objects)\, etc. This will build a foundation moving forward to make the following lesson easier to follow. \nCreating an Actor and Understanding Blueprints\nWe will then create our own actor and start learning about visual scripting. A very basic understanding of the components that make up a coding block\, so that it unshrouds some of the mystery behind these nodes\, so that it encourages exploration without fear of not understanding what anything means. \nRun the obstacle course\nStudents run the intro to Unreal obstacle course which guides them to use the engine to complete an obstacle course level. This will help gauge what they learn in a fun way. There may be some things in the obstacle course I haven’t shown them\, but if I have succeeded in the first two milestones it should give them the tools to figure it out themselves. \n\nThis workshop will be faciliated by Alexander Cartaya\, MAGIC academic tutor.
